
Becoming an Iyengar Yoga Certified Teacher requires dedication, discipline, and a deep commitment to the practice. The high standards and depth of knowledge established by B.K.S. Iyengar are passed down through generations via a rigorous mentorship system.

Before applying for mentorship with myself or any other mentor, students must have at least three years of regular Iyengar Yoga practice. Mentorship is usually undertaken with a Level 2 or 3 teacher who knows the student well. A core element of training is “shadowing”, where trainees observe and assist beginner-level classes, learning directly from their mentor how to teach safely, clearly, and inclusively. Throughout the mentorship, trainees study all aspects of yoga in the tradition of B.K.S. Iyengar, including:

The mentorship process takes a minimum of three years and may begin at any time. During this period, trainees are expected to commit to the following:
As the mentorship progresses, your mentor will observe your teaching practice by attending your classes. The mentorship period lasts a minimum of three years and may take longer, as readiness for assessment is determined by your mentor.
The assessment process takes place over a weekend and includes both asana practice demonstrations and teaching demonstrations.
