I first came across Iyengar Yoga in 1995 at Adult Education classes Bradford and soon realized its profound benefits. I qualified as a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher in 2000.
In my experience Iyengar Yoga has been incredibly transformative on physical, mental and emotional levels, providing a structured approach to developing good habits. My daily practice gives me peace of mind, balance and stability in my busy family life. I love teaching a wide and varied range of people and am constantly rewarded through my students experiencing the benefits of practicing Iyengar Yoga. Through Iyengar Yoga UK, I have continually developed my standard and level of teaching qualification and am qualified to Intermediate Junior Level 3.
I have developed my knowledge of yoga through studying at the Ramamami Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute that is the heart and soul of Iyengar Yoga, located in Pune, India.
I further enriched by my studies with senior Iyengar teachers Rajiv and Swati Chanchani at their centre, Yog-Ganga Centre for Yoga Studies, located in the foothills of the lower Himalayas in North India. Studying here was an amazing experience. My study of Ayurveda, a sister science of yoga, in India and England and more recently Yogic Philosophy with the Vidya Institute, has deeply enhanced my understanding and practice of yoga. My solid understanding of the human body is reflected in my ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology.
I maintain my own yoga practice through attending weekly classes. In addition, I take the opportunity to participate in the annual convention and regular workshops with visiting senior teachers based in both England and India mainly at the Manchester and District Institute of Iyengar Yoga and Sheffield Iyengar Yoga Centre.
I have a keen interest in the therapeutic application of yoga. Since 2017, I have been assisting in a yoga therapy class, based in Keighley, alongside other teachers. The therapy class supports students with a wide variety of health issues from muscular skeletal problems to people recovering from strokes who need a more individualised approach than a regular class setting can facilitate.
I am involved in the local Iyengar community through my voluntary role as secretary for Bradford District Iyengar Yoga (BDIY). Together with other dedicated volunteers we promote the teachings of Iyengar Yoga through workshops and work to connect the Iyengar community through social events.
I am based in Wharfedale, West Yorkshire. I am a dedicated teacher and practitioner. I have a Masters Degree in Business and have had a varied career. Most recently, I worked for 10 years in the charitable sector before focusing my energy on yoga. I am married with two young children.
